Report:

The boys opened their u17 league campaign away to Everton on Saturday morning.

The game started with both teams cagey, testing each other out and playing their way into the game. It didn’t take long for the first goal to come. On 12 mins Liam O Connell hit a sublime cross field pass which Noah rifled into the top corner from the edge of the box, a cracking goal. This seemed to wake the hosts up and Everton had the better of the next 25 mins, scoring two and creating a few other chances. Some last ditch defending was needed and a super save from Kane kept us in the game. 2 mins before halftime Adam beat the offside trap to finish level the scores, 2-2 at halftime.

The second half started much brighter for us with the boys controlling the game a bit more. Franek and Jerry gained more of a foothold in midfield and Charlie and Martin causing problems for Everton going forward. The game turned on 60mins when Adam headed home from a corner. In the next 5 mins Adam completed his hat trick and Jerry added a fifth. Noah rounded off the scoring for us on75 mins to make it 6-2 but to their credit Everton kept going. They pulled on back with 10 mins left and created a few other good chances before the ref called time on a 6-3 win for Carrig.

The lads battled well today and will learn a bit from today’s game, everyone played their part. Kane made some great saves, Adam scoring 3 and Charlie grabbing several assists. Player of the match though goes to Liam O Connell, solid in defence and great going forward today. Well done lads
