Carrigtwohill United – 3
Avondale United – 1

Carrigtwohill got back to winning ways as they hosted Avondale United in Munster Youth Cup round 1. The emphasis was on building from the back and keeping a clean sheet as we lined up with Denis on Right back, Colm partnering with Jayden in the centre and Evan O’Connor on left back.

For most of the whole first half Avondale camped in their own half waiting to pounce on counterattack, that enabled Carrigtwohill to build from the back where often times Denis and Evan found joy overlapping from wing backs. It took one of those nice buildup when Cillian played a quick throw to Colm, who had space to advance as Avondale crowded the midfield. He then sent a nice looping pass over the top right-hand side, where Osase Aghedo was alert to loop it over the onrushing keeper. 1 nil up to Carrig going into second half. Alex Lombard then came in for Osase at half-time and immediately showed some immediate impact as he came close to scoring from narrow angles rasping 2 long range efforts. That was followed by Sebastian’s shots that one hit the woodwork and the other was saved by the excellent Avondale keeper.

Just against run of play Avondale equalized from a corner, to force the game into extra time. Our subs began to show an extra bite as Leroy who had swapped roles with Rollie made a surging run from a through ball from midfield. He neatly slotted it in bottom right corner to send Carrig 2:1 up. Shane Daly replaced Amany and Noah Nsengiyumva replaced Leslie, whilst Alex Kingston slotted in for Evan O’Connor at left back. The fresh legs proved vital as Noah twice came close to extending the lead before finally getting it right in second half of extra time with a well taken strike from outside the box to seal a perfect win. All good in the end but surely the game could have been won in normal time. We hope to carry that over to next weekend’s local derby vs Midleton.

Man of the match went to our back 3 players who were solid throughout with very limited chances given.
Colm Harte, Jayden Washeka and Denis Sitarek.
Scorers Osase Aghedo, Leroy Mhondiwa and Noah Nsengiyumva.
Final Score 3:1 to Carrigtwohill United
