The under 17s suffered the first loss of the season at home Everton on Saturday afternoon.
The game was closely contested from start to finish. We started brightly with Charlie clinically heading home from a super ball in from Jerry on seven minutes. In a pattern that would be followed throughout the game Everton levelled within a few minutes. Both sides were pushing forward, trying to score only to be denied from goalkeepers on both sides. We were ahead again on the 35th minutes when Charlie added his second when he finished with a low drive into the bottom corner of the net. Again, Everton pulled a goal back within a few minutes keeping the game tied 2-2 at halftime.
The second half was as hard fought as the first with both teams, pushing forward, trying to get the goal. Noah sent a looping ball into the net to put us in front again and the lads had their best spell of the game with Noah and Adam going close to grabbing a fourth. In keeping the game Everton were level again with 15 minutes to go and took the lead on the 85 minutes with somewhat fortuitous penalty. The lads threw everything they had to get the leveller and were unlucky not to score but time ran out and we finished up on the wrong side of the 3-4 score line.
The lads battled well to the end and probably deserved a draw but there were some good lessons to be learned that will help them for the rest of the season. The team worked hard today all over the pitch. Player of the match goes to Charlie with two very well taken goals.
