It was a National cup fixture this morning and it made for an excellent cup tie between two evenly matched sides.
On a heavy pitch, the boys played fantastic football. We were ahead after 10 minutes through the prolific Zayd who slotted away a penalty. This came from terrific play from our keeper Charlie who played the ball into Luke and he played a defence cutting pass into Zayd who won himself a penalty. The back 4 of Dara, Eoin, James and Darragh were solid all day and gave us great opportunities to go forward. The lads played great football in the first half but were unlucky to go in level 1-1 at the break.
The second half allowed the boys to show how strong they were as a team defensively. Sam and Aaron worked tirelessly to keep us strong in the middle. Fionn, Kai, Thomas, Cormac and Finn showed an excellent attitude to keep working hard but the game finished level after normal time which sent us to extra time.
Extra time was a game of two teams trying to settle it in 20 minutes, attacking constantly and Charlie Delaney made an excellent save to send us to penalties.
5 boys were brave enough to walk up to take a penalty but unfortunately it wasn’t to be our day. Pride was the feeling after, to see how the boys looked after each other, ensured we will move onto the next games with a lot more to play for as the season goes on.
