Our u15 girls faced a familiar team in the Una Moore Cup today. Wilton United who we played in our first league game of the season in division 1 who had convincing victory that day.
Team: Ellen-Niamh C- Caoimhe-Karla-Caragh-Anna-Maijka-Oilvia-Gemma-Kayla (captain)-Niamh S-Erica-Luca-Aine-Lilly.
We went out today with a ‘nothing to lose attitude’ and it paid off right from the whistle as Carrig piled the pressure on with some great attacking combination from midfield players Anna, Maijka, Gemma, Olivia and our captain Kayla who partnered Niamh up front. The opening goal was created after excellent build up play, gave an opportunity to Niamh Seymour to finish from close range. The second goal came soon after again from Niamh who was in the right place after a shot from Kayla, to slot it past the keeper.
Carrig off to a great start, Wilton who previously showed us how much of a threat they are we’re not to be taken for granted, but our solid back 4 of Caoimhe, Karla, Caragh, Niamh Cuddigan along with Ellen on goal kept them at bay. As the game went on Wilton started to cause a threat through their agile and quick strikers forcing Ellen to be at her best. Erica replaced Olivia on the wing with fresh legs to pose a further threat going forward.
The second half was more of an even game which saw the Carrigtwohill keeper Ellen pull off some important saves to keep Carrig’s lead intact. Carrig were too much of a threat going forward and with a super shot from Gemma that was well saved by the Wilton keeper but unable to gather the ball, again Niamh was there to finish from close range to make it 3-0. Further changes saw Luca come in for Caoimhe at the back and Aine came on for Niamh Seymour who deserved a rest after her first hat-trick of the season. Carrigtwohill ran out winners to move onto the next round of the cup and more importantly getting their first win of the season.
