On Saturday morning we travelled away to play Pearse Celtic in the league, with only goal difference separating both teams in the league table, Carrig 2nd and Pearse 3rd.
1st Half
Carrig started brightly, with Franek opening the scoring with a well-placed shot to give the visitors the lead in the 6th minute. This was short-lived, as Pearse scored the equalizer 6 minutes later to make the score 1-1. Both teams had some very good passages of play with every ball contested for. Charlie and Noah had some great play down the left, which resulted in a penalty to Carrig when Kyle was taken down in the box. Noah stepped up and slotted the ball into the net to make it 2-1 to Carrigtwohill. Carrig increased their lead just before halftime with a super ball from Franek to put Kyle in on goal, which he calmly slotted away to make it 3-1 to the visitors.
2nd Half
Carrig started the second half with a flurry of chances; on the 53rd minute, Kyle bagged his second goal when he scored from a quick throw to make it 4-1. Credit to Pearse for battling and playing some nice passing football, which resulted in their second goal of the game in the 58th minute. This goal really raised the Pearse team, with the next 10 minutes of play being very tight. Noah was denied his second goal with an offside decision in the 70th minute, and Jerry having a super game in midfield was also denied when his shot crashed into the post in the 72nd minute. The lads now playing with confidence really turned the screw to put the game to bed. Adam McCarthy kept up his scoring streak with a lovely finish to make the game 5-2 in the 78th minute. 2 minutes later, Kyle picked up the ball outside the box and turned his player to score a peach of a goal to bag his hattrick and man of the match. Overall, it was a great performance, which kept the lad’s 2nd in the table.
