Carrigtwohill United - 2
Fermoy - 5
Report:
On blustery Saturday morning in Fermoy this team who has never played together as a whole before hit the ground running.
The pressure from the off-set was immense. Passing was slick and through balls were plentiful.
A magnificent cross from Owen Hunt started our first attack which met Jake Dennehy in the box. Played off in expert fashion to Yoma Chea who blazed it passed the keeper after 2 mins.
Fermoy answered straight away with a pass out the wing finding a pocket of space in defence. He had a clear shot on but it was quickly collected by our keeper Ronan Casey.
There was an abundance of attacks from Carrig in the next 15 mins but Fermoy pulled everyone back to defend.
Fermoy's few counterattacks were expertly cleared by a solid back line of Bobby Power, Conor Board, Brady Browne and Mattie Downing.
Eoin Ryan made some great presses, pushing up from centre and feeding in Noah McCarthy on the wing. Noah making great strides up the field to play in Yoma and Jake.
Our next break came from a whole team play. A fantastic ball through by Mattie on left playing in Jacob O Riordan who took the ball the length of the pitch. Playing a lovely pass into Yoma whose shot hit the defender, but only coming as far as Killian Morrisey who volleyed the ball into the back of the net.
Half time finished with a comfortable 2-0.
Playing against the wind in the second half was the detriment of the team. Tired legs and body's found it hard to break passed the defence line.
Fermoy capitalising on balls over the top with fresh legs to beat our defence.
Ball after ball from fermoy carried large portions of the pitch with ease while our shots on goal boomeranged back to our feet with the wind against us.
We created a few chances in the second half. Shots coming from 2 free kicks and 2 corners but unfortunately not getting the finish on them.
The take aways from today are all positive. There were moments of magic, lessons learned and 110% effort given.
Carrigtwohill Scorers: Yoma Chea, Killian Morrisey
