Carrigtwohill played their first league match of the new season against Leeside United on Saturday evening at 8pm. Carrig definitely knew they were up against a very decent team and played a high pressure game from start to finish. Closing Leeside down, not giving them an inch on the ball and running their legs off to win possession back. In the first 15 minutes Carrig dominated possession and created a few half chances. Such was Carrigs pressure Leeside were struggling to find their rhythm or get into gear ! Jack Gilley had a busy night and made some excellent saves with the help of his back line -Callum Foley, Alan O Brien , Kyle O Donovan were rock solid with Zac Green in great form and playing at the top of his game.
Carrig midfield & forwards also had their hands full and done a great job of pressuring Leeside & helping their teammates out all over the pitch with Patrick Vasseur falling back and clearing a goal chance off the line, Robert Cotter, Callum O Byrne, Evan Foley , Gary Og Horgan and Enda O Donnell all putting their shift in and aggressively fighting to win the ball and made their presence felt!
Leeside had a few half chances in the first half but it took until the 35 min into the second half when from scrappy play they scored as Carrig were for once slow to get to the ball or tackle the player. 1-0.
Second half Leeside had more possession and were creating chances but Carrig kept up a relentless pace and kept the pressure on. 76 mins Leeside score 2-0.
Liam Prendergast, Ben Kelly, Darragh Culley , Jake O Sullivan and Rian O Connor came on and continued to work hard for the team. Carrig showed outstanding work ethic and team spirit and definitely made Leeside work hard for this win.
