Carrigtwohill United - 1
Fermoy - 6
Report:
On a very very windy day in Ballyadam Carrigtwohill faced off against league leaders Fermoy.
The game started off at a frenetic pace with thunderous challenges flying in all over the pitch, Carrig then started to forget about the physical side of the game which and started to play football.
Carrig were opening up the opposition at will, with Malachy Kelleher, Sam Collins and Ryan Moore playing beautiful triangles around the opposition defence on numerous occasions with the final ball lacking the finish the moves deserved.
Against the run of play the opposition scored after the wind held up a ball over the top and the striker tapped into the corner of the net 0-1.
Carrigtwohill continued to play football and were level on 25 minutes when Mal went on a mazy run down the left passing his marker with ease, his ball into the feet of Sam Collins, 25 yards out with his back to goal, Sam spun and unleashed a shot on his left into the top right hand corner of the net, lovely strike, 1-1.
Carrigtwohill continued to play football with Ryan Moore turning his marker inside out, he delivered a beautiful ball to Mal who racing in at an angle shot straight at the keeper instead of squaring the ball across the box, fabulous move.
On the stroke of half time a clash of heads was awarded with a free kick to the opposition, bizarrely and from resulting free, the ball found its way into the net, totally against the run of play1-2.
In injury time a mix up at the back cost Carrig dearly 1-3, ht, deflated after dominating the football for large parts of the half.
Second half was far far from what we have seen or expect from this team, heads were down and Carrig could not get back into the groove and the opposition ran out overwhelming winners.
It was a harsh lesson for the squad to endure especially after playing some unbelievable football for the first half, but lessons will be learned.
