Under-15 Cork Schoolboys League Division 1
Sat, 06 Dec 25 at Carrig Park Fermoy
Carrigtwohill United - 0
Fermoy - 1
Report:
Carrigtwohill were away to top of the table Fermoy in what was a tight affair as always when playing this team.
Carrigtwohill from the off were trying to play football, some nice passes from defence into midfield with numerous players getting on the ball and dictating the play for Carrigtwohill.
Carrig were awarded a free 25 yards from goal after Zayd was upended by the defender, Ryan Moore’s free kick just went centimetres over.
The next passage of play was bizarre to say the least, Carrigtwohill had the ball on the right hand side of the defence and as Fionn played the ball out to Pranav it looked like he was caught by a trailing leg, play on, the ball broke to the opposition, who crossed the ball into the box, a coming together in the box between Alex K and the opposition forward resulted in the ball breaking and Alex clearing, his lines, penalty, to the astonishment of everyone in attendance as the opposition hadn't even called for it. 1 - 0 at the break as the opposition could not believe their luck.
The second half was dominated by Carrigtwohill on what was a lovely astro surface, Carrig controlled the ball through Aaron Sheehan and Ryan Moore who was dictating the play,
Ryan released Zayd who's tireless running throughout the game was nearly rewarded when he burst past the defender and released a bullet of a shot that flew just wide of the post.
Moments later we were nearly level when Ryan M received a ball off Tristan on the left, Ryan passed the defender with ease and chipped the ball into the far top hand corner of the goal but somehow a fingertip from the keeper tipped it over the top great save.
With 2 minutes left Ryan Collins dribbled passed two defenders and broke into the box, just as he was about to square the ball to Darragh Leahy, Ryan hit the deck, what looked like a stonewall penalty was waved away and not long after full time whistle blew.
In a week that had 5 struck down with illness, this squad showed tremendous courage to even compete.
