Corinthians A – 3
Carrigtwohill United A – 1
Carrigtwohill travelled away to Corinthians and despite a strong overall performance, came away on the wrong side of a 3–1 scoreline.
Carrigtwohill fell behind early in the first half after a Corinthians breakaway goal. The early setback didn’t knock Carrig’s confidence, however, and they went on to dominate large spells of the first half. Lucy had a number of half chances, but the ball just wouldn’t break kindly in the final third. Corinthians threatened on the break again, but Hannah showed excellent instinct and safe handling in goal to ensure the score remained 1–0 at the interval.
Corinthians started the second half with more momentum and added two further goals, both coming from loose balls breaking in their favour inside the Carrigtwohill box. It was one of those days where the luck seemed to fall Corinthians’ way rather than Carrig’s.
To their credit, Carrigtwohill kept pushing and were rewarded with a deserved goal. Phoebe broke down the wing with great pace and control before unleashing a superb strike across the goalkeeper into the bottom corner. The goal lifted Carrigtwohill, who finished the game strongly and had Corinthians under real pressure in the closing minutes, but no further goals followed.
Standout performers were Lili and Emma at the back, along with Phoebe on the wing.
Thanks to Corinthians for a very sporting and enjoyable game.
