Under-14 Girls Cup
Sat 17th January at St. Gobnaits Park
Mallow United – 0
Carrigtwohill United - 3
Carrigtwohill's U14G played away to Mallow in the first round of the U14 cup on a chilly afternoon in St.Gobnait's Park.
Both teams cancelled each other out for the first 20 mins or so of the game with plenty of attacks from both sides met with great defensive work, but a superbly worked set piece between Olivia O Sullivan and Molly Dennis ended up with Dennis rifling the ball into the top corner of the net. Mallow threatened from a couple of set pieces of their own to finish up the half but were met by the safe hands Zoe Cotter on each occasion.
Carrig changed it up in the second half positionally bringing Isabelle Kingston into the midfield which sparked the Carrig attack on a more regular basis, a defence splitting ball from RB Béibhin O' Dwyer went straight into the path of Abbie Rall after breaking through a tackle, slotted the ball to the right side of the out rushing keeper, Carrig were on top from here on in as not long after a long range shot from Isabelle Kingston was almost stopped on the line by a very good Mallow keeper on the day but trickled over before she could keep it out . Mallow pushed the entire game to make it a great cup contest but Carrigtwohill deserved winners.
Thanks to Mallow for hosting and a great game, thanks to the ref on the day Ben Whelan.
POTM : Sarah Kelleher, relentless workrate and controll of midfield both in attack and defensive duties.
Special mention to: Béibhin O'Dwyer and Isabelle Kingston.
