Carrigtwohill United - 4
Leeside - 0
Report:
Carrigtwohill travelled away to face Leeside for the first time this season. This fixture has always been a close contest in previous seasons. It did not disappoint.
Both sides sitting in the lower part of Division 1 so points are vital for both teams.
First half both teams battled for possession in midfield, Carrig just coming out on top of those 50/50 challenges.
The visitors won a few early corners of which Kayla and Anna delivered pin point balls putting their keeper under pressure. 17th min one of those corners from Kayla ended up in the Leeside net to give Carrig the slight advantage.
A lot of Carrig’s attacks came from midfield trio of Anna, Majka, Erica using both wingers Gemma and Kayla giving good delivery into our lone striker Niamh Seymour who is dogged at winning a lot of ball from any defender.
The Leeside keeper at one stage pulled off an acrobatic save from a looping strike from Kayla, to keep her side within touch of an equaliser to end the first half.
Carrig’s defence of Caoimhe, Caragh, Karla, Luca had their work cut out keeping tabs on a very active centre forward, being orchestrated by captain Niamh Cuddigan in goals.
The section half Carrig upped the tempo with a few adjustments and changes from the bench bringing Olivia C, Abbey, Sarah and debutant Leah into the mix.
Second goal for Carrig came from a free kick out left dangerously delivered by Kayla, the Leeside defence could not deal with the angle and beat everyone including keeper.
2-0 to Carrig but still not in the clear as Leeside had their own ideas to get back into the game, a shot from distance somehow hit the post and ended up in Niamhs safe hands.
Goal 3 for Carrig was a strike from Anna from 20+ yards into the far top corner giving a competent keeper no chance.
Abbey C slotted effortlessly into defence and Sarah on the wing, with Leah in as striker, soon scored the fatal blow to seal off the win with excellent pace up top from Leah who scored her first goal on debut.
4-0
