Report:
Today saw us travel to Macroom and a chance to play on their Astro pitch, hopefully a glimpse into Carrigtwohill’s future with the new Astro surface absolutely top class. A big thanks to the parents for making the long trek-thankfully the team produced a performance that made it well worth the journey.
We settled quickly and didn’t take long to find our stride. After just a couple of minutes, Sam Dolan fired a superb volley into the roof of the net from a brilliant delivery by Ryan Mathew . From there, we played some lovely football throughout the first half, with Sam in top form, completing his hat-trick before the break.
At the back, Luke was outstanding in goal — calm and composed throughout — well supported by the back four of Oisín, Callan, Cian ,Roger and Eoghan Rall. In midfield Zach controlled the game brilliantly, with Mossie putting in another huge shift, while Ryan Mathew and Sam caused constant problems going forward. JP was very unlucky not to get on the scoresheet in the first half and didn’t give Macrooms defence a minutes peace.
Into the second half, we lost a little momentum, with all 16 players who travelled getting a minimum of 35 minutes, which took a bit of time to settle again. Even so, there were spells where we were unplayable. JP finally got his deserved goal after great work and a lovely through ball from Fionn Morrissey. Eoin Lombard, Odhran Ryan Barry, Paulie and Jack all contributed to some excellent passages of play and really kept the intensity up.
We were very unlucky to concede with the last kick of the game — Luke and the back four certainly didn’t deserve that — but overall it was a great day all round.
