Coole FC – 0
Carrigtwohill United – 1
Carrigtwohill United travelled all the way to Gort to play Coole FC in their last-32 game in the SFAI U13 National Trophy.
On a bitterly cold, windy day on a sticky pitch, Carrig played against the strong wind in the first half but still controlled the game with some excellent passing moves, one of which ended with Adrien shooting narrowly wide after 10min. Carrig continued to press and got their reward after 20min. Max floated a free kick in from the right and Tommy arrived at the back post to finish well.
The backline of Will, Oisin, Jack and Tommy were able to snuff out any attacks from Coole and it was 1-0 at half time.
Conditions worsened in the 2nd half with rain and sleet falling but with the wind at their backs, Carrig continued to press. Max and Ajus controlled midfield, with Oran and Michael continuing the good work when they came on. Rian and Albert were getting good joy down the wings, as did Shaun and Adam later in the game. Robert had a couple of chances in the 2nd half to double the lead but the Coole keeper was excellent on the day. Coole did have a late chance on the break near the end of the game but Ruadhan made a good save at his near post to ensure that Carrig came out winners 1-0 on the day and progress to the last-16 round against Corinthians at home.
