Midleton FC – 3
Carrigtwohill United – 0
Carrigtwohill girls headed to Knockgriffen Astro pitch to take on a Midleton team battling to go back to top of the league.
The conditions were extremely tough with the weather taking a turn just before kick-off.
The first half saw Midleton applying the pressure throughout but were met with a stout defence, marshalled by Abbey Carroll and Emma Cashman but with a lot of help from the midfielders Rachael Uyi Irabor and Isabelle Kingston who dug deep for the entire game breaking out from the back with the ball.
Midleton had a good few half chances but were met by the stand in keeper Sarah Kelleher who was fantastic on the day. Carrig had a couple breakthrough also but were shut out by the Midleton defence, nil all at half-time.
A couple of changes made at the half and some confusion at the back for Carrig led to two quick fire goals by Midleton . Carrig eventually settled and went back to the way they were playing in the first half, the cold wind and rain was taking its toll on both sides but in fairness to all the players they kept going until the end. With Carrig pushing to try and get on the score sheet with Isabelle and Éabha Murphy having half chances, Midleton scored again in the last few minutes of the game and that's how it finished.
Well done to all the girls involved.
Thanks to the ref on the day and the hosts Midleton.
Well done girls, keep up the great work.
