Under-14 Girls CWSSL Cup
28th Feb 2026 at Ballyadam

Carrigtwohill United – 1
Midleton FC - 3

A local East Cork darby took place in Ballyadam between close neighbours Carrigtwohill and Midleton in the semi-final of the U14 CWSSL cup.
Both teams met in the league in their last outing only recently also but with a different feel to this game.

Carrig started off with fierce intent from the beginning and were on the front foot for the large parts of the first half with Rachael Uyi Irabor leading the charge up front. She caused the Midleton defence all types of trouble through her constant endeavour and incredible work rate. Carrig were unfortunate on several occasions during this period not to score whether it was a last ditch tackle, save from the keeper or shot wide . Midleton also applied good spells of great passing and movement but any time they got in range the defensive shape of Carrigtwohill shut them down, led by Sarah Kelleher and Isabelle Kingston, Carrig unfortunate to go in at half time nil all.

The second half started in a similar vein with Carrig keeping up the extreme hard work to try and nullify a more determined Midleton team, the plan was going well until the 60 minute Midleton secured a penalty dispatched with a great strike by the Midleton player,  Carrig now had to push harder to get back into this game and were unfortunately caught again with a quick fire second goal, many heads would  have dropped at this stage but in fairness to all the girls they got straight back into the game with incredible work again by Rachael to break the lines getting the ball through to Sarah whose first shot was saved, but the follow-on chip from a tight angle nestled in the opposite corner.

Five minutes left and the  Carrig girls were on a mission to secure the late equaliser pushing hard camped in the Midleton area trying to get on to any loose ball but Midleton were able to clear the lines with a long ball straight to the on running striker who sealed the game.

It finished 3-1 on the day but the home team on the day can hold their heads high on a fantastic performance in a thoroughly enjoyable  cup semi-final game.

Well done to the ref on the day Ken Cuthbert , Midleton, all the parents and especially the Carrigtwohill girls who put on a fantastic display.

POTM:Rachael Uyi Irabor, phenomenal performance throughout the entire game.
Special mention, the entire team, unreal  performance girls, keep up the incredible hard work.
