Maedhbh joined Carrigtwohill in August 2021. One of forty two girls that signed up on the first night. From the word go Maedhbh stood out as a natural leader. She didn’t just want the ball she demanded the ball. She had boundless energy and enthusiasm.
Maedhbh quickly established herself as a midfield powerhouse where her strength and force were the perfect foil for the mercurial talents of Anna Madden. Together they were such a fantastic combination on the field of play. The silky sublime skills of Anna and the steely grit and strength of Maedhbh. Thou shall not Pass was their motto. In the early days many teams came to Carrigtwohill and tried to bully the CWSSL newcomers. They didn’t reckon on Maedhbh though. To take on a Carrigtwohill girl meant you had to take on Maedhbh too. Maedhbh was fiercely protective of her teammates.
Maedhbh captained the girls to the U14 trophy win in the MTU stadium in May 2023 and again last year when the girls became the only team in Carrigtwohill to win a premier division trophy. What a fantastic achievement for anyone. In between all this she represented the Cork CWSSL under 16 team with pride and distinction. Rumour has it that there were shouts of “Come on Cork” & “Up the Rebels” heard in a Tipperary accent around the grounds!!!! At the time of going to press these rumours have not been confirmed but I can categorically confirm they are not “Fake News”
In 2024/2025 season Brendan Cronin tried something different and played three at the back. Maedhbh in the centre of the back three. What a revelation it proved to be. Maedhbh didn’t like the role much at first but it was a role made for her. Maedhbh missed taking shots on goal and the freedom to attack but soon she realised how good she was at attacking corners and bang bang bang she started scoring headers, each one better than the other including two bullets against Midleton in one day. Often we got the chance to play Maedhbh up front in games and she relished the opportunity to thump the ball into the back of the opposition net. Her goal celebration was simple. A simple shout of “Yesssssssssss” and fists clenched. It meant so much to Maedhbh to score for her team.
Maedhbh was hugely popular with her coaches Sonya, Reamonn, Brendan, Dave, Sean & Gary. An Inspirational character on and off the field.
She leaves with managements best wishes and a heart full of incredible memories shared with the most amazing teammates in the world.
In a world where loyalty is often misused, Maedhbh was 100% loyal to her team mates, rarely missing a training session whether injured or not. That level of commitment has now been rewarded with Maedhbh signing for Cobh Ramblers U23’s.
Go neirÍ an bothar leat Maedhbh.
