Carrigtwohill United A – 2
Kinsale A – 1
Top of the table Kinsale travelled to Ballyadam to play Carrigtwohill A on a beautiful Saturday morning .
This was our first match back in Ballyadam this year and the pitch was looking and playing immaculate. The instruction to the lads was simple, continue to bring learning from training to the pitch and as Martin pointed out " do your job" .
We knew this was going to be a tough game, with both sides playing well from the off. At times Kinsale were better at controlling the ball, especially around the centre but any attack was limited to half chances and a lot of offsides , credit to the Carrigtwohill back line and Julians safe hands in goals.
After 11 mins Josh found himself running through on goals but was taken down just outside the box. Scott placed the ball and with a birds eye view from the sideline , we witnessed a simply exceptional goal by Scott , so well struck and placed that found the top corner of the net , beating a really good Kinsale keeper .
It was simply a game of both sides going from one box to another with no real clear chances , workrate a huge factor for both teams.
Kinsale did equalise with a ball over the top and with a lovely touch from their striker that took the ball over Julians head and ran it in.
Carrigtwohill rallied again and the introduction of our 2nd keeper Ollie to midfield was huge with the simple task of disrupting their midfield which he did with his relentless pursuit.
With half time approaching, Ollie came out with the ball down the right, playing a lovely ball to Scott on the wing who headed towards goal but was under pressure and forced along the end line but somehow still managed to rocket the ball past the keeper from an impossible angle , again a phenomenal goal by Scott.
The second half continued in the same manner with both sides limited to half chances , workrate massive from both sides, but with our renewed instruction to every player to do your job and subsequently is why we came away with all 3 pts.
Julian was just outstanding in goals, fearless, safe hands and great delivery .
Tom O slotted back to right back and didn't leave one ball pass and excellent kick outs, Ryan is just a huge presence ,constantly clearing his lines and getting more confident on the ball each game .
Our right backs of Kuba and Dylan held solid for whole game, clearing a massive amount of ball and great tackling.
We are blessed to have Tom P, Krystian and Ollie in the middle, all 3 with huge engines and NEVER will pull out of a tackle or give up.
On the wings we have pace and never ending workrate in Ciaran , Liam, Josh and Alonzo, all 4 putting in a shift up and down the pitch throughout the game.
Finally Scott was simply back to his best, 2 phenomenal goals, numerous shots during game and brilliant hold up play.
At the final whistle there was a roar that we hadn't heard before from the lads, one where the lads knew they won a hard fought battle against a very good team.
MOTM:
Shared between
Oliver Berzins who changed the game in midfield with his relentless running, tackling and distribution and Scott Parker for his overall play and 2 world class goals
