Riverstown A – 0
Carrigtwohill United – 4
On what was a misty cold and wet tuesday evening, the girls took on a strong Riverstown team who are leading Division 4 with just a single defeat all season. This was the girls first evening fixture of many in the weeks ahead.
The girls started brightly and had the bulk of the possession in the first 10 minutes. They scored 2 goals from Molly and Lauren to put themselves in a commanding position in this Cup tie.
To be fair, Riverstown competed very well and had equal possession but were struggling to break through with Rolina imperious as always and Edel solid in goals.
Despite the poor conditions and heavy pitch, the girls actually upped their game in the second half and really pinned the hosts back, creating numerous chances.
They added 2 superb goals – firstly, Edel dribbled and sidestepped two defenders before scoring neatly and then the Carrig girls produced a wonder goal.
Isabelle picked up the ball on the half-way line and took the ball up the wing despite the attention of 2 defenders. She put in a firm low cross which Sophia met with a first-time volley to bury the ball in the back of the net.
Job done and into the quarter finals and a home tie with division 2 side Kanturk – well done all
