Carrigtwohill U13s Edge Thrilling Quarter-Final Battle

 

On a beautiful evening in Ballyadam, Carrigtwohill’s U13 side delivered a determined performance to secure victory over Kanturk in a gripping Plate quarter-final clash.

 

From the outset, it was clear this would be a tightly contested encounter. Kanturk started the stronger, applying early pressure and testing Carrig’s resolve, though they were unable to carve out any clear-cut chances. Gradually, Carrig settled into the game, with Hannah and Lauren asserting control in midfield and shifting momentum in their side’s favour.

 

Opportunities soon followed, as Lucy, Allie, and Sofia all came close within the opening 20 minutes. The breakthrough eventually arrived courtesy of a classic poacher’s finish from Allie. Reacting quickest to a through ball, she bravely nipped in ahead of the advancing goalkeeper, taking a knock in the process but crucially giving Carrig the lead.

 

Both teams welcomed the half-time whistle after a demanding opening period. Carrig began the second half brightly, continuing to dictate play. A superb through ball released Phoebe clean through on goal, but Kanturk’s alert goalkeeper raced out to deny her and keep the deficit at one.

 

Carrig maintained the pressure in search of a second goal, while Kanturk remained a threat on the counterattack. However, the Carrig defence stood firm, with Molly and Emi particularly impressive in their determination and composure.

 

Further chances came Carrig’s way, with Edel showing sharp footwork to create space for a snapshot that was again well saved. Phoebe also found herself through on goal later in the half, only to be denied once more by the outstanding Kanturk keeper.

 

As the game entered its final five minutes, Kanturk pushed hard for an equaliser, but Carrig held strong. Emi produced a crucial intervention to cut out a dangerous break and preserve the lead.

 

In the end, it was a well-deserved victory for Carrigtwohill. Emi, Molly, and Allie stood out with exceptional performances, while special credit goes to the Kanturk goalkeeper, who kept her side in the contest with a series of fine saves.
