Carrigtwohill United – 1
St. Marys - 1
A large crowd gathered to watch on a rare warm day in Ballyadam. They were treated to an touch and exciting encounter.
Carrigtwohill made a tentative start but gradually adapted to the physicality and grew into the game. An unfortunate mix up in defence saw Carrigtwohill concede at the end of the first quarter. To their immense credit the girls stood up to the battle and did not shirk out of tackles and every girl gave their all for the cause and their team spirit was seen in abundance as they covered and supported each other superbly.
Carrigtwohill scored a deserved equaliser just before the break and what a goal it was. St Mary's corner was expertly taken down by Lucy on the edge of the six yard box and she proceeded to take off down the pitch, out pacing and dribbling past St Mary's midfield and defence before expertly crossing the ball into the six yard box where Saoirse showed great composure to slam the ball into the back of the net.
The second half continued to be a battle and Carrigtwohill won numerous frees which resulted in a lot of pressure in the opposition box. Carrigtwohill were the dominant soccer team at this stage but they had to remain alert for long balls being played over the top, however the defence and goal keeping was top notch and held out strongly. There was some dazzling skill and dribbling on show which nearly resulted in a goal for Carrigtwohill.
The match finished one a piece and all the girls can be immensely proud of how they turned up, supported each other and played their way out of danger.
