Under-13 Girls CWSSL Division 3
7th May 2026 at St. Marys Park
St. Marys – 1
Carrigtwohill United – 0
In a cagey affair and a dress rehearsal for Saturday’s U13 Plate Final, Carrigtwohill United narrowly lost out 1-0 to St. Mary’s.
St. Mary’s started strongly and dominated the early stages of the game. Carrig gradually worked their way back into the contest, with the ever-energetic Isabelle cutting open the St. Mary’s defence with a lung-busting run from midfield, but her shot was well saved by the St. Mary’s goalkeeper.
St. Mary’s continued to push forward without creating many clear-cut chances, thanks largely to Ailish in goal. Any half chances were quickly swept up in an excellent “sweeper keeper” display. The first half ended scoreless at 0-0.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with chances at a premium. St. Mary’s looked the more dangerous side, but again Ailish made several important saves to keep Carrig in the game.
The breakthrough eventually came when a fortunate bounce in the box fell kindly to the St. Mary’s forward, who calmly slotted the ball into the corner.
Carrig responded well and pushed hard for an equaliser, led by Emi in a driving midfield role alongside the ever-dependable Hannah, who swept up brilliantly in the holding midfield position. Despite their best efforts, the equaliser never came and St. Mary’s held on for the win.
Best for Carrig were Hannah, Eliza, and Edel.
A reminder that the U13 Plate Final between these two teams takes place this Saturday, 9th May, at 13:30 in MTU Stadium. Please come along and support the girls!
