We travelled to Kanturk this morning for our fifth league match of what promises to be a long season. Spirits were high, and the lads settled into the game quickly.

The back five of Eoin, James, Kacper, Darragh Sull, and Dara Kav were moving the ball well and starting attacks from defence. However, a long ball over the top caught the back line out, and we found ourselves 1-0 down after 10 minutes.

The response from the boys was brilliant. Luke, Thomas, and Sam began to drive the team forward, and a slick move down the left worked its way back to Kacper, who played the ball into Sam’s chest. With an instant control and turn, Sam unleashed a volley that smashed off the crossbar and over.

The lads kept their shape and continued to play good football and, on another day, could easily have had two penalties awarded.

The second half brought more of the same, with Kai, Cormac, Finn, Dylan, and Josh keeping the pressure on the Kanturk back four. While chasing the game, we left ourselves open at the back and Kanturk capitalised to make it 2-0.

Kai replied with a smashing goal with two minutes remaining, but in our efforts to get an equaliser, we were again caught on the counterattack, with Kanturk adding a third goal late on.

The lads were brilliant today, and I’d like to thank all the parents for making the long round trip to Kanturk, as well as Paul Collins for helping out.
