Carrigtwohill travelled to Mitchelstown to face off against a strong Park United who are currently sitting in second place in the division above.

With just twelve players available to travel, Carrig knew they had a tough fight ahead of them especially with the 25degree temperature at kick off.

Park started brightly, testing Carrig keeper Nicola just 3minutes into the game but were denied by an outstanding save.

Carrigtwohill responded in style battling through mid-field where Martyna showed her class with some lovely footwork before calmly beating the keeper to put Carrig ahead at 7minutes and absolutely stun the home side.

Park looked shaken and pushed hard for an immediate response, creating another big chance but were denied again by another brilliant stop.

The game settled into a period of even play especially in the centre of the pitch with both teams fighting hard to break through. 

Park eventually found their breakthrough and levelled the score before adding a second a few minutes later with a penalty.

Carrig kept their heads high and were rewarded at 41minutes when an outstanding corner from Rachel was directed straight to Jill who read the play expertly, slotting the ball straight into the back of the net.

 

2-2 at half time with the temperatures still blistering.

 

Park regained the lead shortly into the 2nd half to make it 3–2 but Carrig continued to compete all over the pitch.

Strong work in the centre with lovely passing from Neasa and Rachel which was repeatedly fed to Jill who kept constant pressure on the Park defence.

Despite a solid team performance and plenty of excellent passages of play, it wasn’t to be our night as Park added two more goals to close out a 5–2 victory.

The scoreline didn’t reflect the effort from Carrigtwohill, with every single player battling tooth and nail for the full 90 minutes in difficult conditions and against top opposition.
