We travelled to Avondale today for another league match on a lovely day for football.

The lads started the game on the front foot, with Charlie having very little to do. The back four of Darragh Sull, James, Eoin and Dara Kav defended brilliantly, while Luke, Sam, Kacper and Cormac moved the ball around well in midfield. Kai and Finn caused constant problems for the Avondale full-backs and were unlucky not to help the team take the lead when Sam dragged a chance just wide following some excellent build-up play down the right-hand side.

Another opportunity came our way soon after, again from good play down the right flank, with Finn getting on the end of the move, only for the Avondale goalkeeper to make a fine save.

A water break during the first half seemed to change the momentum of the game, with Avondale scoring three unanswered goals. Two of the strikes came from long range, and while Charlie managed to get his hands to both efforts, he was unfortunately unable to keep them out.

The coaches made a tactical adjustment at half-time, moving Kacper into defence and pushing James further forward.

The boys never stopped playing their football, and James soon had a chance of his own, only to be denied by another excellent save from the Avondale goalkeeper. Midway through the second half, James pulled a goal back following a superb move that started in defence. Dara Kav played the ball into Sam, who then slipped James through on goal to finish confidently.

The boys continued to push forward and, with ten minutes remaining, pulled another goal back through Kai after another move that started from the back.

On another day, the boys would have found an equaliser, but like much of the season, the footballing gods were not on their side.

The team should take great heart from this performance. It was undoubtedly their best display of the season, and with the quality, desire and hard work they continue to show in every match, it won't be long before the results start to reflect their efforts.
