First match out and it just happened to be a cup match — added pressure right from the start! But the girls went out to show the hard work they’ve been putting in at training.

Solid work from the back line from the very first touch. Yani Wolstenholme held strong on the left, Penny Daniel was clinical with her defending on the right, and Olivia Healy mopped up absolutely everything that came her way.

Jane Hanrahan was called into action sooner than we thought, with a great strike from the Carrigaline forward, but she gathered it with ease.

Hailey Fitzgerald and Chloe Cronin made some great tackles on the wings and worked hard to get back whenever the defensive line needed help.

Aoibhín Barry held the ball well in the centre and fed it up to our strikers when needed. Fantastic work from her in her very first game with Carrigtwohill.

Our strikers, Isabelle Mangan and Catherine O’Connor, worked tremendously hard to get to every ball. Their strength on the ball was particularly notable.

At half-time, Carrigaline led by two goals.

The second half started with the introduction of two new players, Dilan Guler and Lena Dul. You’d never know they hadn’t played football with a team before, as they fitted right in from the start.

Lena made some unbelievable clearances, while Dilan fought for every ball that came her way. She held up the wingers and defended when needed.

Kayleigh O’Sullivan moved into the forward line and was very unlucky not to pull a few goals back. Solid play and great pace on the ball from Kayleigh.

I have never been prouder of the team’s performance today. They gave every ounce of effort and played some amazing football.
