Mayfield United 5–1 Carrigtwohill United
Carrigtwohill United were under pressure from the very beginning in what proved to be a difficult afternoon against a strong Mayfield United side. Mayfield controlled much of the game and made it difficult for Carrigtwohill to find a way through. Charlie was called into action early and produced an excellent save to keep the score at 0–0, but Mayfield eventually took the lead with a goal that was disputed by the Carrigtwohill players.
To the lads' credit, they responded well and fought their way back into the game. Fionn showed great determination to follow up on his initial effort and squeeze the ball home to level the score at 1–1. Unfortunately, Mayfield struck again just before half-time, leaving Carrigtwohill 2–1 down at the break.
Mayfield's excellent deliveries into the box caused plenty of problems throughout the game, and Carrigtwohill struggled to get going after the restart. Mayfield took advantage, adding three further goals to make it 5–1. The introduction of the substitutes brought some fresh energy and much-needed impetus, but Carrigtwohill couldn't find a way back into the game.
The final score was 5–1 to Mayfield. It was a difficult afternoon for the lads, but there are plenty of lessons to take from the game. The team will regroup, work on the areas that need improvement and look to put things right in the games ahead.
