Kinsale 1–1 Carrigtwohill United

It was a very early start in Kinsale today, but a beautiful day for football. Both teams were evenly matched and played their hearts out, with a massive work rate from everyone on the pitch.

Kinsale got the first taste of success when a miscommunication in our back line gave their striker the perfect opportunity to open the scoring. We reacted almost immediately, with a long pass up the wing from Sereen to Jessica, who found Cara Morrissey, but her shot went just wide. Helena Wachowska did a great job keeping the Kinsale left midfielder from breaking through on goal. There was plenty of back-and-forth football throughout the first half as we chased an equaliser that almost came on several occasions.

The second half saw some excellent work from Sadbh Stenhouse in midfield. Skyler Hornibrook and Cara Morrissey took up new roles at left and right back, strengthening the defence and helping to shut down Kinsale's chances. Amy and Wiktoria both had attempts on goal that were well saved by the Kinsale goalkeeper, while Demi O'Riordan also had a great chance, but Kinsale's back line stood firm.

With just two minutes left on the clock, Shakthi found some space in front of goal and took her chance. A superb one-two with captain Aoife Eakins created the opening, allowing Shakthi to bury the ball into the top corner and bring us level.

The final minute was truly "heart in the mouth" football. Kinsale broke away down the wing, but our defence did brilliantly to get the ball out for a corner. One last Kinsale attack saw Katie make a great initial save, with the ball falling to the Kinsale striker, whose follow-up shot was bravely blocked by Jessica Hogan. The final whistle was a huge relief and confirmed a well-deserved point for Carrigtwohill United.
