Under-12A Girls CWSSL Girls League

Carrigtwohill United 2–4 Mallow United

Playing their second game in a week, the girls started with plenty of fight, determination and heart. They worked hard to clear their lines, played some excellent football down the wings and scored two fantastic goals in the first half.

The opening goal came from captain for the day, Zoe Fitzgerald. A throw-in from Isabelle Mangan found Zoe, who showed great determination to beat two defenders before slotting the ball into the net. The second goal was another excellent team move, with Aoibhin Barry making an early pass to Isabelle. Isabelle took the ball all the way to the line before cutting back and firing into the roof of the net. Mallow responded with a goal of their own to leave the score 2–1 at half-time.

The second half continued in much the same fashion, with plenty of chances for both teams. Mallow scored twice in quick succession to take the lead, but the girls continued to fight. They were unlucky not to equalise when Penny Daniels played a superb through ball to Kayleigh O'Sullivan, who unfortunately lost her footing as she went through and the goalkeeper was able to claim the ball. Mallow added a fourth goal shortly afterwards.

There were some excellent defensive performances, with Dilan Guler, Inez Czerniawska and Catherine O'Connor clearing plenty of danger at the back. Yani Wolstenholme, Lena Dul, Chloe Cronin and Olivia Healy also put in solid performances.

A great work rate from all the girls once again. They showed plenty of character and determination, and can be proud of their effort despite the result.
