Carrigtwohill United 2–1 Midleton Magpies

Following their 2–0 Cup victory over neighbours Springfield Ramblers last weekend, the girls were looking forward to another local derby against their friends from Midleton Magpies in an early-morning league fixture at Ballyadam Park. These two teams have competed regularly against each other in recent years, making this another good test of the girls' progress.

The first half was evenly balanced, with both teams causing problems for each other. Midleton opened the scoring from a free kick on the edge of the box, while two superb saves from Ailish in goal kept Carrigtwohill in the game. At the other end, Sadie came close on several occasions, but it was Kaitlin who finally got the breakthrough for Carrigtwohill, producing a wonderful strike into the top corner to bring the sides level.

Carrigtwohill dominated possession in the second half and created plenty of opportunities, but the decisive goal proved difficult to find. Once again, Kaitlin stepped up, scoring from close range to put the home side in front and give Carrigtwohill what would prove to be the winning goal.

The final ten minutes saw Midleton turn up the tables and put Carrigtwohill under immense pressure. Great credit is due to the entire back four for standing firm, with Saoirse producing a superb match-saving tackle with just a minute remaining.

A hard-fought victory and another excellent performance from the girls. Well done to everyone involved.
