Carrigtwohill United 3–1 Midleton

Another excellent performance from our Under-17s as Carrigtwohill came out on top in the local derby against Midleton.
Carrig started on the front foot and created an early chance when Jamie played Owen through with a lovely ball, only for the Midleton keeper to produce a great save. Brian Wiecek and Owen Aghedo went close before Carrig opened the scoring. A well-delivered corner from Owen found Jamie, who flicked the ball on for Brian to finish from close range. Dylan Foley, who had been playing well, was unfortunately forced off after 30 minutes with a cut over his eye. Bart was soon called into action and produced a superb save, somehow getting down to his right after a deflection to push the ball wide. Carrig doubled their lead after 38 minutes when Brian played a lovely ball through to the speedy Nathan Joseph, who calmly slotted the ball home to make it 2–0 at half-time.
Carrig continued to dominate after the break, with Jack Lombard and Aaron Power both going close early on. Some lovely skill from Karol Szalonik on the left created another opportunity, but a timely Midleton tackle put the ball out for a corner. The Carrig defence was solid throughout, with Jamie O'Riordan, Sam and Isaac dealing confidently with everything that came their way. Troy and Karol were excellent, while it was great to welcome Josh back into the team following his injury.
On 60 minutes, Brian produced an outrageous piece of skill on the right before playing a lovely pass to Aaron, who found Nathan, but his shot went just wide. Midleton then pulled one back, but Carrig restored their two-goal advantage just a minute later with a superb team goal. Starting from the back, Jamie, Nathan and Jack were all involved in a well-worked counter-attack before Aaron Power delivered a perfectly weighted pass to the onrushing Brian, who finished superbly into the bottom-right corner to make it 3–1.
Nathan had one more good effort after another excellent run from midfield, but Carrig saw out the game to secure a well-deserved 3–1 victory.
Jamie O'Riordan was once again a rock at the back, while Aaron Power and Nathan Joseph were a constant threat going forward. Brian Wiecek was outstanding all afternoon, capping a brilliant performance with two goals.
The win moves Carrigtwohill up to second place in the table, with this team continuing to improve with every game. 💙💛
