Report:
After recent good performances without reward, the Under-12A girls were delighted to pick up all 3 points in St. Colemans Park yesterday morning.
The superb venue was somewhat lost on the young players, but not of course the coaches. The original fixture was cancelled due to the new Astro pitch being frozen and thankfully this went ahead at the same venue despite the dense fog and rain which made it difficult to see the opposite side of the pitch. In fact, it seems that every U12 girls fixture is played in the rain and always involves getting soaked!

The home started the match stronger but found it hard to get past the Carrigtwohill backs of EmmaW, Maisie, Kate and Robyn who were all immense throughout the game. Ailish in goals did have to be quick off her line on several occasions but was solid as usual and her distribution was key in this game as she set up the attacks from her kick-outs.
Gradually as the first half wore on, Carrigtwohill started to gain a foothold in the game and Zoe and EmmaOC both playing in central midfield were able to set up several attacks, one of which put Isabelle through on goals only to be saved by the keeper
It was no-score at half-time, and after some positional swaps, the second half was a great battle between two well matched teams but the longer the match went on, the more goal threat the visitors carried with Amelia, EmmaQ and Faye driving forward at every opportunity.
Saoirse, now playing up front, had two wonderful shots on target which the keeper did very well to save which was a sign that a breakthrough could come at any minute.
And eventually - it did - with just 2 minutes left on the clock, Kaitlin picked up the ball in midfield and drove forward a struck a clinical shot into the bottom left corner of the net to the delight of the players, coaches and noisy supporters who were all cheering from their dry seats in the stand !
Well done to all the girls who get their reward for all the work over recent weeks.
