We wish our Under-17 starlet Lily O’Connell all the best as she starts a new adventure with LOI side Cobh Ramblers
Lily, started her first game with Carrigtwohill scoring five goals and still losing 8 - 5. That was only one of four league defeats she suffered in the blue and gold of carrigtwohill.Lily was dedicated to soccer from the go and rarely missed a training session or match, even when she was injured and unable to train two seasons ago she still turned up to training and matches.
Lily had an amazing crack off a ball and scored many a thunderbolt in her time with Carrigtwohill, the most memorable was against Springfield in a cup competition when the strike on the ball sounded like a clap of thunder.
As Lily's game developed she took more responsibility and soon was taking free kicks and corners to be proud of. She scored many a goal from free kicks and planted the ball on Maedhbh's forehead from many a corner.
As her fitness and game acumen developed Lily would appear out on the wing toying with her opponents. Not content to trick her opponents once or twice she'd try it again until a roar would come from the dugout to get the ball into the box, maybe the roar wasn't always as polite as that though!!!.
Lily captained the team to league success in U15 and was instrumental in that campaign scoring some great goals along the way. Off the field Lily would mentor and give advice to the younger girls who idolised her.
Of course Lily was privileged to play with a fantastic team of young ladies. While Lily took the plaudits for scoring goals there was an engine room of unsung hero's driving her on. Megan, Maedhbh, Sarah, Anna, Caitlín all driving her on but her perfect foil was the tenacious Amelia . The grit, hunger, steely determination, strength and unselfishness of Amelia Sheehan was the perfect foil for Lily's trickery and silky skills. On their day they were unplayable and must have scored well over a hundred goals together.
Everyone at Carrigtwohill United, her teammates, past and present team coaches would all like to wish her all the best and look forward to seeing her further development
