Carrigtwohill United A – 2
Fermoy A - 0
Fermoy A - 0
After the disappointment of losing in the cup in extra time against a division 2 team the lads dusted themselves off and put in a hard-working performance on a beautiful evening in Ballyadam.
Carrigtwohill started well against the sun but with the wind at their backs. Some good play out from the back from Klaidas Dedela, Adam Lane, Ronan Doyle, Lorcan Thornhill and Rian Mulcahy with Rian McGovern in goal behind gave Carrigtwohill a good platform going forward.
The first chance of the game fell to Ajus Lepeska whose shot went to the right of goal after good work down the left from Lorcan and Ariel Lembelembe. Carrigtwohill had another chance when Ariel cut in from the left to pass and Mati Majchrzaks effort was saved by the Fermoy keeper.
The midfield of John Buckley, Frank Krysiak, Ajus Lepeska, Cesc Matarin and Ariel Lembelembe were on top and some good passing moves were putting Fermoy under pressure.
Fermoy came on strong towards the end of the first half and their physical advantage helped to push Carrigtwohill back, but the defence held strong and dealt with a few corners and attacks while we remained dangerous on the break with Oscar Mazur and Mati Majchrzak up front.
The first half finished scoreless with neither team really deserving of the lead, but that was all about to change.
Carrigtwohill were much stronger in the second half finally getting a grip on the game. They learned how to deal with the bigger Fermoy lads and were a lot more physical in winning the ball in midfield. A couple of good passing moves between Cesc and Ajus in midfield played Frank through on the left and he was unlucky not to get on the end of two good chances.
Klaidas and John on the right-hand side were starting to click with a couple of good balls played across the Fermoy box that Mati almost got on the end of. There was one scare on the 40th minute when Fermoy broke through the Carrigtwohill defence but Oscar Mazur who went in goal for the second half made a stunning save low from a shot that was going in the bottom corner. We still don’t know how he managed to get to it.
Carrigtwohill finally got the breakthrough on 42 minutes when working the ball on the right Klaidas found John whose fantastic dink over the Fermoy defence found Mati and he cooly finished to continue his fantastic recent scoring form.
Carrigtwohill were in control now and this was evident when we got a deserved second after a mazy run by Ajus, his through ball found Ariel and his finish closed out the game in the 50th minute.
There is a lot of individual praise that could be given out but everyone on the pitch had a good impact and really contributed to the game with a lot of hard work and some great teamwork. Man of the match must go to Klaidas Dedela who marshalled Fermoy’s dangerous left winger for the whole game. A defensive masterclass.
Carrigtwohill finished out the game well with some strong defending and some good possession play letting Fermoy with no chance to get back in the game.
