Carrigtwohill United - 1
Mallow Utd - 0
Report:
Carrigtwohill welcomed Mallow to Ballyadam for the quarter final of the Una Moore cup. Both teams in division 1, which showed a great achievement for both teams so far. Our last game against each other was a close physical battle with Mallow coming out on top that day.
Our girls knew it was going to be a tough physical battle which the first half was with both teams sharing possession equally. Carrig maybe having the better chances through a couple of corners but unable to convert due to the dogged defense of the visitors.
Our defense stood solid consisting of back 4 Luca-Karla-Caragh-Niamh C, midfield 4 Gemma-Erica-Majka-Caoimhe battled hard to win and keep possession. Our striking partnership of Kayla-Niamh S (sub-Molly 25min) kept pressure in the final third.
First half came to a stalemate, 0-0.
Talking to the girls at the break we agreed to try be first to the ball and be more physical in second half, we started off exactly as we agreed on, making a positional change with the back 4, we started to get stuck into the opposition, winning more ball in the middle and creating the chance that gave us the lead, some great passing combination by Gemma-Majka to send Niamh S though on goal, she had a defender by her side all the way before she struck past the keeper and into the far corner.
Carrig finally broke the deadlock, making some changes on the wing brought in Lilly for Caoimhe, Olivia for Molly (injury) in midfield and finally our debutant Isabelle to the wing. We settled the game from there on in, absorbing any pressure from the Mallow players, our girls lasted until the end and sealed the win to get them to the semi-final.
We are super proud of this squad of girls who have a tough season so far but we are now back on track.
What a character building performance from the Carrigtwohill girls. Carrig Abu.
